Post-Construction Cleaning Services in Wayzata, MN

MJM Cleaning Services provides detailed post-construction cleaning for Wayzata homeowners after remodels, renovations and new residential construction. The service is for the stage after the major work is done, when the crew has packed up but fine dust, residue and handling marks remain on cabinets, trim, floors, glass and fixtures.

MJM plans each cleaning around what your project actually left behind, including the rooms that were worked on and the areas the dust traveled to, and confirms the scope with you before the appointment.

Construction Finished? The Detailed Cleaning Comes Next

The contractor may be finished, but the property often does not feel finished. A kitchen remodel, new flooring, drywall repair or a basement finish leaves a layer of fine dust that general tidying does not reach: on door frames, window ledges, cabinet tops, closet shelves, vent covers and the edges of new floors. There can also be stickers on glass, tape lines, paint specks and handprints on new surfaces. Contractors usually clear their tools and larger debris, but the detail cleaning that follows is a different job.

This page explains when cleaning makes sense, what the contractor should clear first, how construction dust behaves, and what MJM can and cannot take on, so you know what to expect before you request a quote.

Post-Construction Cleaning vs. Deep Cleaning

Deep cleaning deals with household dirt that builds up over time: grease, bathroom buildup, ordinary dust, floor soil, baseboards and general detail work in a lived-in home. Post-construction cleaning deals with what building work leaves behind, such as fine drywall dust, sawdust, dust on newly installed surfaces, stickers, protective film and certain residues on new cabinets, fixtures and floors. Both involve detail work, but the starting point is different, and so is the order of the work. Fine dry dust is generally removed first and damp cleaning follows, because mopping heavy fine dust can smear it across a new surface instead of lifting it.

If your home needs a reset and no building work is involved, Deep Cleaning in Wayzata is the better fit. If a renovation has just ended, start here. If both apply, say so in your quote request and MJM can plan around it.

What Can Post-Construction Cleaning Include?

MJM confirms the exact scope for each project in your quote, based on what the work involved. These are the areas commonly addressed after remodeling, and the details worth raising.

Construction Dust and Fine Debris

Detailed vacuuming and wiping of the surfaces where dust settled. MJM uses Miele HEPA vacuum equipment as part of its detailed cleaning toolkit.

Cabinets and Built-Ins

New cabinet exteriors are a common request. Shelves and drawer interiors matter when the cabinets were open or installed during dusty work, so say whether you want interiors included.

Doors, Trim and Baseboards

Ledges, door frames and trim collect settled dust and are easy to miss.

Windows, Glass and Tracks

Covered in its own section below, because this is where scope varies most.

Kitchens and Bathrooms

Counters, sinks, tile, tubs, showers and fixtures that were handled during installation.

New Fixtures

Faucets, lighting and hardware, cleaned according to their finish.

Floors

The method depends on the flooring type, covered below.

Vents and High Surfaces

Vent covers and ledges are common dust collectors. Whether ceilings, fans, light fixtures or other high surfaces fit your project is confirmed in your quote.

Not every item is automatic. Naming your priorities helps MJM scope the work accurately.

Why Construction Dust Can Keep Settling

Fine dust from drywall sanding, cutting and demolition is extremely light and can stay in the air long after the work stops. It settles slowly, so a surface that looks clean on Monday may have a new film on it by Wednesday. It also travels with the movement of air through doorways, hallways and the home’s air system, which is why dust from a bathroom remodel can turn up in a nearby closet or bedroom.

That is why the quote considers where the work happened and how far the dust spread, not just the size of the renovated room. Cleaning also stirs dust back into the air, so effective cleanup often means vacuuming, wiping surfaces, cleaning floors and sometimes another pass after the dust has settled. No single visit can promise that every particle is gone for good, especially if other work is still happening in the home. Ask your contractor whether HVAC filters should be changed after the project.

Rough Clean, Final Clean and Touch-Up Clean

People use “post-construction cleaning” to mean different things, so it helps to separate the stages.

Rough clean happens while construction is still moving, or after major trades finish. It focuses on larger debris and preliminary cleanup, and it is often handled by the construction crew or a cleaning crew working on a job site.

Final clean is the detailed cleaning after the major work is finished. It deals with fine dust, finished surfaces, fixtures, cabinetry, floors and glass.

Touch-up clean is a last pass after remaining trade work or punch-list corrections.

MJM’s post-construction cleaning is designed for the detailed stage after major work is complete, which is closest to a final clean. If you need cleanup during the project or a touch-up after punch-list work, describe the situation in your request and MJM will tell you whether it can take it on.

When Should You Schedule Post-Construction Cleaning?

In general, final cleaning is most useful once the major dust-producing work is done. That means the trades are finished, sanding, cutting and painting are complete, tools and materials have been removed, and paint, caulk and sealants have had time to cure enough to be cleaned around. If cleaners arrive while someone is still sanding, painting or installing, the space gets dirty again immediately and you pay twice for the same surfaces.

Ask your contractor to confirm the last scheduled work, including punch-list items, before you book. Where practical, schedule cleaning before furniture returns and before the space goes into everyday use, since open surfaces are easier to clean. When you request a quote, include your expected finish date and MJM will review timing against its schedule.

What Should the Contractor Remove Before MJM Arrives?

In general, construction waste and equipment belong to the construction work, not the cleaning work. Lumber, drywall offcuts, packaging, tile waste, cement bags, tools and leftover materials should be cleared by your contractor before detailed cleaning starts, because working around them wastes time and spreads dust.

Confirm in your contract who is responsible for hauling away debris, and tell MJM what, if anything, will still be in the space when you request a quote. MJM provides cleaning, not demolition or debris hauling.

Windows, Stickers and Construction Residue

New and replaced windows often arrive with stickers, labels, protective film and tape, and the installation can leave paint specks, caulk smears and dust in the tracks and frames. That is very different from wiping smudges off glass. Stickers and film are sometimes simple to remove and sometimes not, and paint, adhesive, silicone and grout haze can be harder still, because the wrong method can scratch glass or damage a finish.

MJM does not assume it can remove every residue. Send photos with your quote request and list the residues you are concerned about, and MJM will confirm which it can address and which are better handled by the installer, painter or tile setter responsible for the work.

Cleaning Newly Installed Surfaces

New hardwood, engineered flooring, tile, natural stone, stainless steel, painted trim, cabinetry and plumbing fixtures all react differently to cleaning products. MJM selects products according to the surface and the task rather than using one product throughout the home. Products the team may use include Bona for appropriate flooring, Sprayway for glass, and Weiman products for appropriate stainless-steel and stone surfaces.

A stronger cleaner is not the default for a new finish. If the installer or manufacturer gave you care instructions, share them with MJM when you request a quote.

What MJM Does Not Handle

MJM’s post-construction cleaning is ordinary cleaning. It is not lead remediation or abatement, asbestos cleanup, silica remediation, mold remediation or biohazard cleanup, and it cannot make hazardous materials safe. It also does not cover major demolition waste, repairs, paint touch-ups, heavy construction debris or specialized exterior and high-access work.

If your home was built before 1978, EPA’s Renovation, Repair and Painting rule requires firms paid to renovate those homes to be certified and follow lead-safe work practices, which include cleanup and a cleaning verification step. That is the renovation contractor’s responsibility and is separate from a cleaning visit. If you suspect lead paint dust, asbestos, mold or heavy dust from cutting tile, stone or concrete, ask your contractor about it and consider an appropriate assessment or specialist before general cleaning begins.

What Affects Post-Construction Cleaning Cost?

MJM does not price residential cleaning by the hour, and there is no single rate for every project. Cost depends on the square footage, the type of project, how much dust there is and how far it spread, the number of windows and amount of glass, whether cabinet interiors are included, residue on surfaces, flooring type, ceiling height and access, the stage of the project, how many cleaning passes are needed, and any special requests.

Photos and a description of the work help MJM scope accurately, and whether an onsite walkthrough is needed is confirmed when you request your quote.

Post-Construction Cleaning for Wayzata Homes

MJM’s post-construction cleaning is for Wayzata homes at the end of projects such as kitchen and bathroom remodels, finished basements, additions, new flooring, drywall and paint work, window replacement, whole-home renovations and new residential construction.

Tania helped me out when my cleaning lady quit right before my daughter and her family came from London for a stay. She came right over, went over what I needed, I hired her and she was there the next day with the cleaning ladies. They were fabulous! The next time they cleaned Tania just sent the two women and they did a perfect job of getting my house spotless and just perfectly cleaned. I am so thankful for Tania, Susan and Maria and want everyone to know how wonderful they are for cleaning a house!

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about post-construction cleaning? Find quick answers about scope, timing, drywall dust, windows, debris and pricing for homes in Wayzata and nearby areas.

What is included in post-construction cleaning?

Scope depends on the project, but post-construction cleaning typically covers fine dust and residue on surfaces, cabinets, trim, floors, glass, kitchens, bathrooms and fixtures after the work is complete. MJM confirms the exact scope in your quote, including details such as cabinet interiors, windows and tracks, and vents, so nothing is assumed.

Deep cleaning removes household buildup such as grease, ordinary dust and bathroom grime. Post-construction cleaning deals with what building work leaves behind, such as fine drywall and sawdust, dust on new surfaces, stickers, film and some residues on new finishes. The work is also sequenced differently, since fine dry dust is generally removed before damp cleaning.

Schedule it after the major dust-producing work is finished: trades done, sanding, cutting and painting complete, and tools and materials removed. Cleaning earlier means dust returns when work resumes. Ask your contractor about any remaining punch-list work and when paint and sealants can be cleaned, then request a quote with your expected finish date.

Post-construction cleaning is designed to address it, with realistic expectations. Fine drywall dust is usually handled by vacuuming and wiping surfaces, then cleaning floors, and it can resettle, so more than one pass is sometimes needed. No cleaning can promise permanent removal of every particle. Tell MJM where the drywall work happened and how far the dust spread.

Window glass, frames and tracks can be part of a post-construction clean, and MJM confirms what is included for your project. Stickers and film may be removable depending on the surface, while paint, adhesive, silicone and grout haze can risk damaging new finishes. Send photos with your quote request and MJM will say what it can address.

In general, yes. Lumber, drywall offcuts, packaging, tile waste, tools and other materials are part of the construction work and should be cleared before detailed cleaning starts. Confirm with your contractor who handles hauling, and tell MJM what will remain when you request a quote. MJM provides cleaning, not demolition or debris hauling.

MJM does not price residential cleaning by the hour, and there is no fixed rate for every project. The price depends on square footage, project type, dust level and spread, windows, cabinet interiors, surface residue, flooring, access, project stage and the number of passes needed. Request a quote with photos and project details for an accurate price.

It may be possible, depending on the project and the scope, and MJM confirms this before booking. Tell MJM which areas you are living in, which were renovated, and whether dust spread beyond them, so the plan reflects how the home is actually being used.
